Shine Star Canvas ⭐️

"You are here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.” - Matthew 5:14-15 (MSG) ⭐️🎨

My heart is to show the beauty of God’s Word through my art, and this Bible verse truly speaks to that. I am creating an 8x8 canvas of a wonky star and the word “shine” to encourage you to be a light in this world! I’m showing you my painting process, how I start most of my paintings, and how to add all of the God-colors to your art. Create this piece of art for yourself and display it in your home as a word of encouragement!

STEP 1:

For most of my artwork, I start by painting my surface black - then I’ll add all of the color. 🍭 There’s a lot of symbolism with the black being painted first because there are times when we have sorrow and darkness in our lives. But when we add all the beautiful colors to the black canvas… it creates the backdrop to bring in more depth and more richness. And the colors will shine brighter! 

And as we shine and embrace our identity of being a God Made Girl, we are truly creating a magical colorful world!

STEP 2:

Once I have a black canvas, I’ll take a piece of chalk and sketch out a wonky star. This does need to be a perfectly shaped star - in fact, it shouldn’t be! Then, I will combine Primary Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, and white to paint my star.

STEP 3:

Then, I’ll take a pen with a paint-dried tip to outline my star, write the word “shine”, and doodle some stars. ✨

STEP 4:

Next, I will combine Primary Red, Fluorescent Pink, and white paint and cover the background of my canvas. I like to leave a little bit of black showing through around the star. 

STEP 5:

Then, I will mix Light Blue and white paint and add little snippets of blue around my star. I love adding this color to my artwork. 💖
