Give Yourself a Permission Slip!

Today I'm teaching you one of the most important lessons I've learned in art: giving yourself a permission slip!!

Permission to be wonky. Permission to have fun today. Permission to live colorfully.

What will your permission slip say?

Go to my Facebook page on Wednesdays at 11 am CST to watch Wonky Wednesdays LIVE!

A Fun Paper House Part 3! šŸ’

craft diy gratitude play May 16, 2024

It's Fun Friday! And we are continuing in our paper house of dreams creation!! This can be a symbol for us--our very own house of dreams! I was inspired by the book, Anne's House of Dreams! Today, we're creating around the question "What is the password to the front door of your house of dreams?". Following the breadcrumbs of what God was showing me, I found the secret password!

In Psalm 100 (MSG), it says,

“On your feet now—applaud God!
    Bring a gift of laughter,
    sing yourselves into his presence.

Know this: God is God, and God, God.
He made us; we didn’t make him.
We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.

Enter with the password: “Thank you!”
Make yourselves at home, talking praise.
    Thank him. Worship him.

For God is sheer beauty,
    all-generous in...

A Fun Paper House Part 2! šŸ”

art craft diy fun May 09, 2024

Happy Fun Friday! We are continuing our lesson from last week, and adding elements to our paper cut out house! If you missed that lesson, you can find it HERE.

So get out your markers, pencils, pens, crayons, whatever you'd like to create with, and fill your paper house with love! :) As we add fun things to this house, let us remember we live for the God who made magnolias!

And we create these playful cutout houses to add fun into our days. Like Einstein said, "Play is the highest form of research."

Start with your cut out house ready to go from Part 1. On a separate piece of paper, draw your elements. I'm drawing a girls to put in the windows. I have the house right next to my paper so I can kind of see what size they should be. *You could also measure the space of the window if you want to be exact, but remember to keep it wonky!*

I sketched out an easel with a "painting" of  a flower on it to put in the top window. As you fill in the windows, you can start to think of...

A Springtime Tree! šŸŒ³

diy sketch spring watercolor Mar 14, 2024

Get out a little piece of paper and pen, and draw with me! We’re sketching and making a springtime tree! I think it is so important to schedule a time to daydream and sit with God. “When I am among the trees, especially the willows and the honey locust, equally the beech, the oaks and the pines, they give off such hints of gladness. I almost say that they save me, and daily” -Mary Oliver

I highly encourage you to read the rest of the poem and be truly inspired!

Step 1:

I’m drawing a simple tree! Start by draw two curves going different directions to make the trunk. Then a cloud like shape for the leafy part!

Step 2:

Write wonkily in your tree, “To go easy, to be filled with light and to shine.” - Mary Oliver. Draw some extra lines around the top of the tree.

Step 3:

I’m going in with watercolor, and painting what I call a “Matisse” tree! And what this means is I’m going in with all kinds of color in the tree....

Let's Make a Mini Valentine Card! šŸ’—

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 ESV

In this lesson, you will learn how to paint a mini valentine card! Using pens, markers, watercolors or whatever you have available! Let's doodle a pink and red card together!

Step 1:

Start by reading 1 Corinthians 13:4-6, and pick one thing on that list to pray for God's help with. Start drawing the heart with pencil or pen. Write in bubble letters the word, "LOVE". Draw a scalloped edge around the heart. Remember to keep it wonky!

Step 2:

Now, let's add color! Using the size 8 brush, add water and use the hot pink watercolor along the scalloped edge. *Tip* The more water you use, the lighter the color will be. Now, add the pink color to the "L" and "V". Take a red marker, and...
